Hello,Â
My name is Chris Allen, and I am the founder of The Black Caddie, a project dedicated to preserving the rich history and invaluable contributions of African American caddies to the game of golf. I am reaching out to you and your organization today because I need your help in locating and honoring these unsung heroes.
Our mission is to find and celebrate the surviving Black caddies who carried the bag between 1930 and 1985, as well as those who continue to do so today. These men have played a crucial role in shaping the sport we love, often in the face of tremendous adversity and discrimination. Their stories are not just a part of golf’s history; they are a testament to the resilience, dedication, and passion of the human spirit.
At The Black Caddie, we are committed to ensuring their legacy does not fade away. We believe that by sharing their experiences, we can inspire a new generation of golfers and shed light on an often-overlooked chapter of the sport’s past. That’s why we are embarking on a journey to sit down with these remarkable individuals, walk the courses they know so well, and listen as they recount tales of triumph, hardship, and unwavering devotion to the game.
Through virtual course walks and intimate conversations, we aim to explore the challenges they faced as Black men in a predominantly white sport, the bonds they forged with the players they caddied for, and the wisdom they accumulated over decades on the greens. By documenting their stories, we hope to create a living archive of their experiences and ensure that their contributions are never forgotten.
But we cannot do this alone. We need your help in locating these extraordinary men and bringing their stories to light. If you have any information about Black caddies from the past or present, or if you know someone who might, please reach out to us. Every piece of information, no matter how small, brings us one step closer to our goal of honoring these heroes and preserving their legacy.
To learn more about our project and how you can get involved, please reply to this email. We would be thrilled to share our vision with you and discuss how we can work together to celebrate the unsung heroes of golf.
Thank you for your time and consideration. Together, we can ensure that the stories of these remarkable men live on, inspiring generations of golfers to come.
